This mature food forest used to be a basic lawn with border beds. Over the last ten years, Ellen has transformed it into a beautiful and bountiful forest garden.
Following permaculture principles, Ellen has created a collection of zones, including a terraced vegetable garden and the food forest, full of fruit trees, berries, herbs, and edible perennials and ground cover. There is also a meadow garden and a secret grove.
This third-of-an-acre sanctuary is a hidden gem, with its mulched pathways, garden art and sculptures, and a whimsical chicken coop.
St Johns Food Forest has featured in Kiwi Gardener Magazine and has received an award from Moths & Butterflies NZ Trust for creating a habitat to encourage our native butterflies and moths.
Ellen runs her popular Edible Garden, and Food Forest workshops in this lovely setting.
There will be seedlings and bird boxes for sale.
